Today is always a Bittersweet day for me and many others. I lost my Mom is September of 2006. So hard to believe it has been 10 years. All my life Mother's Day was centered around flowers. We planted, picked and mowed around many a bush and flower bed. I would not trade those times for anything. It led me to a career as a Florist where I spent Mother's Day working from 1976-1988.
I have been gathering plants for my pots for a couple of weeks and was missing the elusive Picassa Petunia. I headed to city market yesterday, where I have been able to purchase a Hanging basket for the past 3 years. After searching every row, no basket. Asked my usual vendor and she did not grow any this year? GASP!!
Powell Gardens plant sale was this weekend, so I headed off to the East to take a chance and it was a Beautiful day!! And YES I found some 4 inch pots, so my basket won't be full and lush, but it will get there. I joined the Gardens, rode the Trolley to Iris Hill and walked back to the visitors center. Here are a few pictures taken along the way.
And the Growing walls in the Waterfall garden, so gorgeous!
SO Today I will plant in honor of these ladies. A chilly day in May 9, 1954 in Norwood Illinois, My Parents Wedding day. Grammie Rosene, Aunt Doris, Mom, Aunt Marilyn and Grandma Willhouse. Aunt Marilyn is still with us and will see her in 2 weeks. Her LOVE for flowers is as Great as mine and can't wait to visit Powell Gardens with her on her next trip to Missouri.
Happy Mother's Day Everyone!!
